I believe you that the fan(s) are not coming on. But if the car overheats at main road speeds, 50+ mph, the overheating problem is elsewhere. There is more than enough air-flow at ..say... 45 to 50 mph (probably even less) to water-cooled the radiator and form the fans superfluous or useless. Begin with checking the coolant level -- polar --- do non pop a hot cap. If it is good, next is thermostat to be checked. But if all this is disputable and it does non overheat at speed, alone at idle, then right back to Rob's answer

no they can issue forth on independently. You own a temperature reduction fan and a auxiliary sports fan for the A/C, when you car reaches a certain temperature both fans potty come through on or if you have the A/C on
